Political Leadership

Political Leadership

The City of Edinburgh has 63 elected members – councillors – who set policy and make decisions at meetings of the full Council or a committee or sub-committee. For example, the Education, Children and Families Committee makes decisions on all school matters.

We only have two true Independent Councillors that aren’t affiliated with a group.  We then have the three members of EPIC (Edinburgh Party of Independent Councillors – which is a Group).

The lead political committee – the City of Edinburgh Council – is made up of all 63 elected councillors representing the political groups as follows:

SNP Group

16 councillors

Conservative Group

17 councillors

Labour Group

11 councillors

Green Group

8 councillors

Liberal Democrat Group

6 councillors

Independent

5 councillors

More information on the committee structure and membership is on our website.
